Planned Obsolescence Jacket + Ambient Animation

(2023)

A Gothic lolita-inspired ornamental pattern covered with whimsical obsolete electronics, both real and imagined. Featured devices include Portable Pavlovian Learning Machine (with Magnetic Conditioning Bones), various Hit Clip e-books, a Soap Bubble Analog Computer, and an Enciclopedia Mecánica, or analog multimedia encyclopedia from 1948. I 3-D modeled and rendered all of the assets from scratch using Blender. Cut and fabrication by Tiff Bushka. The ornamental frames were borrowed from 17th-century emblem books.

This ambient animation showcases some of the individual devices from the Planned Obsolescence Jacket. The format was inspired by Kid Desk, 90’s children’s organizational software that featured a skeumorphic desk (in lieu of a desktop). Modeled in Blender and animated in After Effects.

This vintage-inspired ad features a model playing a glass harp, a musical instrument made of wine glasses filled to differing heights. Art directed by me and shot by Jini Lee, with additional ad copy by Tiff Bushka. Originally ran in n+1 magazine.
